Mapex are proud to announce the endorsement of top percussionist James Hughes under their Keyman artist program.

Dedicated to supporting new UK talent, Mapex are delighted to work with James as one of the first percussionists on their artist roster.

James is a talented percussionist whose passionate and persuasive performances have established him as a leading figure in his field.

It is his sense of musical creativity and immediate engagement with audiences, coupled with an effortless technical flair that is particularly infectious.

With a natural enthusiasm, James, under his company name of Hughes Percussion, tours the country giving concerts, running corporate and educational percussion workshops as well as performing at weddings and other events.

James performs regularly alongside the pianist Tim Balnaves in Unit SIX, an exciting percussion and piano duo whose intensity and communicative power have ensured their position at the forefront of contemporary music.

Recognised as one of the UK's emerging duos, Unit SIX are in constant demand to perform works by composers from all over the globe.

It is their genuine passion for sharing this music with concert audiences that has ensured their position as one of today's most attractive new ensembles.

James regularly campaigns to promote new music and expand the accessibility and diversity of percussion to all audiences.

This partnership with Mapex will provide him with the instruments that he needs to explore exciting new repertoire and will enable him to share this music with audiences in venues across the UK.

Venturing into a new, unexplored field, Mapex are excited to have their product used in a refreshing new context and look forward to what will be a productive, long term partnership.
